Today’s post is from the lovely Marianne Thomas. An aspiring health professional, she shares her story of a recent trip to Australia!
After several months of hard studying, my exhausted body was signaling me to take a break… Perhaps a trip? Beaches, ocean, surf; that’s probably what you imagine when you dream of a scorching hot, fantasy vacation. Or at least I do.
But sometimes we can be surprised! Flying down to visit my relatives in Australia, I found myself where I least expected: the mountains (as if I don’t see them enough everyday on the Canadian West Coast).

Despite my original notions and plans, I found that all the walking and hiking was exactly what I needed to rid myself of stress. And not only that, but the views were stunning and completely different than the mountains at home. I won’t lie, that was a surprise too.
There are hundreds of trails in the Blue Mountains, and I easily fell in love with the healthy Australian culture that’s hard to come by anywhere else. No matter how early in the morning, people were walking their dogs and jogging the trails. It was such an amazing experience! Inspiring too!
When I got home I was peppered with questions from friends and family: “How was the beach? The ocean? The surf?”
I answered by telling them I had a lot more fun than I envisaged, and I stayed a lot more healthy than I expected too!
