Where I’d Love to be: basking in the glorious warmth and Asian sunshine of Dumaguete, Philippines…
When the sun makes a teasing appearance after several months of mostly Vancouver rain, my happiness factor jumps up a lot! But then, the rain inevitably returns and I’m left wanting to travel somewhere warm. Someplace like the Philippines!
Last year was the first time I visited the beautiful Philippine province of Dumaguete. It is a hidden gem. The beaches are quiet, clean and glowing bright with white sand and crystal clear, turquoise waters. It’s not the first island many people think of when they are looking for a Philippine vacation, but I’m happy I went there.
I swam with whale sharks, frolicked under a waterfall, experienced new exotic flavours and nearly melted in the tropical heat (totally worth it though)!
It was the perfect getaway and the ideal way to recharge my batteries and get that much needed vitamin D! Living in the north, it’s not unusual for people to be deficient in the sunshine vitamin. Our bodies can produce vitamin D but not without the help of the sun.
See? Even more of a reason to skip town for a sunny vacation during the winter months! I suppose if a trip to the Philippines isn’t feasible, getting vitamin D some other way will have to do…
